VOWEL SOUNDS AND WELL-BEINGNESS
Kingsley Idiagbor, F.R.C.
Spoken words are combinations of vowel sounds by
which we express our thoughts and ideas. These sounds are not used to mean
the same things because of the diversity of languages among mankind. From
research, students of Linguistics have found that there are basic sounds
and words present in all languages. These identical words however, may
have different shades of meanings in different tribes but they abound in
all cultures and languages. Can you imagine how this world would have been
like without words or indeed vowel sounds? Is it any wonder therefore,
that sounds play a major role not only in communication of our moods and
thoughts but also our entire psyche.
God created the world – physical and abstract realm – using the sacred
Logos. This is now hidden in the plurality of beings, objects and the
elements in what the Rosicrucians would call the Lost Word. Ever since,
mystics, philosophers and alchemists have been in search of this Lost
Word. Through its graded study, the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC have gradually in a
step-by-step manner revealed this word to the students with thorough
explanation of the proper pronunciation and usage in affecting and
commanding nature and improving their general situations in Life.
In this article, we are not going to dwell on how to begin the search
for the Lost Word but to introduce its elements in form of useful vowel
sounds. It has been found that when these vowel sounds are chanted, they
have effects on both the chanter and those within hearing. They also
create and raise the vibrations of the environment in which they are
chanted. This explains why their usage was suggested and recommended in my
article on Meditation. We are now going to look at four vowel sounds and
how regular chanting of these sounds could and do raise our vibrations and
contribute to our general well-being.
RA…MA Regular chanting of this combination of vowel
sounds (RA and MA) will put you in tune with the powerful and protective
forces of the Cosmic. Each time you do so, chant in full voice or mentally
extending it to four or five syllables. Thus: RRRRRAAAAAAaaaaaAAAAaa
MMMMMMMMMAAAAAAaaaaaAAAAA. As you carry out this intonation,
visualize a giant torch atop the chair where you are seating very
comfortably, pointing a full beam of white light which totally surrounds
and encircles you. With practice and full concentration, you will find
that there comes increased feeling of protective presence and vibratory
influence about you. Many practitioners of this vowel sound have testified
to the efficacy. Try studying the various Christian and other religious
hymns and you will no doubt find that RA and MA features one way or the
other in the words and the lyrics.
OM The OM is chanted with the sound O as in home.
Silently or in a soft audible voice, intone a prolonged O sound, and then
add the M sound. Thus OOOOOooooooMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmm. This sound
equally reinforces the protective influence of the OMniscient, OMnipotent,
and OMnipresent God and could be combined with the RA and MA vowel sounds
before your daily meditation in the morning and in the evening before you
sleep. This sound tunes you with the cosmic forces and emphasizes God’s
presence in our lives. We are healthy not only physically but spiritually
by regularly chanting this sound. This is because it tends to bridge the
communication gap that seems to exist between our various selves resulting
in their harmonization.
EH This vowel sound has effect on
fluids and this has been proved by experiments
conducted in Rose Croix University in San Jose. You will easily recall
that we are filled with all sorts of fluids in our body – blood, lymph,
hormones and various secretions. This sound is chanted on any note
convenient to you but EH is pronounced as in let and in a prolonged
manner. Thus, EEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Chant this sound
regularly, incorporate it into your praise songs or accentuate it where
already present in your religious hymns. When used daily especially when
you wake up or after your meals, it builds up your blood, increases
antibody production and thus boosts your immune response and encourages
the assimilation of useful nutrients from your meals.
KHEI Our final vowel sound for experimentation, for
now, is KHEI pronounced KAY (as in the name Kate) then join EEEEE (as in
the letter E). Thus KAYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeee. It is
suggested that you rest for a while after each intonation. Intone this
vowel sound regularly especially to aid self healing. When you find that
you are feeling low in energy or in a depressed mood, try chanting KHEI
three times (or multiples of three, i.e. 6 times or 9 times and so
on).
Chant each vowel sound or set of vowel sounds three times
In conclusion, it is important to point out that when you try your
vowel sound exercises that you do not expect too much at first. Simply do
them with the aim of really being good at them. It is important to get
into a routine and begin to build up just like it is done in sports. Do
not be deterred, as you would find in the beginning, by laziness. This is
a great obstacle to students of mysticism not only in the use of vowel
sounds but in the application of several other useful principles. Do not
procrastinate to use these four vowel sounds and others that you may
garner from other mystical or Rosicrucian sources even when you do not feel like it.
Form the habit. Get into the routine. Soon you will find a connection as
thousands of others have done between vowel sounds and well-beingness.
